How to Choose a Network Marketing Opportunity

Ok, so...after careful consideration, you did your due diligence and decided to start your entrepreneurial path by owning your network marketing business. That's incredible, congratulations!

Now, you have to be very careful when choosing a company to join. Some of the mistakes most people make is following this criteria: compensation plan, product and finally education or training. Well, it's actually the other way around. Since you are not taking a job as a salesman, your product is not the most important thing and let me explain why. Your business is learning, teaching and leading others on how to build a network of reliable and successful entrepreneurs. In other words, you are looking to become a master in network-building.

I strongly recommend looking for a company with strong leaders, a system of real-world business education, training and personal development. As I said before, be careful, there is the good, the bad and the ugly as in any other industry in the business world. Some companies don't really care to teach you how to succeed, they just want you to go sell for them and bring your friends and family on board. Invest some quality time to look past the compensation plan and the products and look into the core values of the company. I am not talking about taking the time to listen to a 45 minute sales pitch, clicking on their website or reading about people making 50k a month. Now, be aware that many network marketing companies say they have great training, but really few do. Remember, training is not about recommending you a book list and persuading you to recruit your family and friends. Look into the training, education, seminars, events and marketing strategies (these are the profit making tactics: learning how to market through Google PPC, Web 2.0, article marketing, syndication,etc).

Building a list is the first thing you should focus on for the first 3 months. Take advantage of all the marketing strategies you learned to start targeting thousands of hungry and interested prospects. Master one strategy at a time and become really good at it. Second, stop buying every book, course and cd out there hoping to find a magic formula or secret. You can get those later after you start sponsoring some people into your primary business. Third, you have to start building your brand, YOU inc. Set up a personally branded internet marketing system with your videos, audio messages, and training to educate people on your company and this industry. Remember, they have to brand you as a leader not the company. Also, Put in place a marketing funnel to market affiliate programs to your list, so that you can start seeing some results while you build and grow your list.
