Things To Know About Patriotic Desserts

By Christine Szalay-Kudra

The great thing about desserts is that they are meant to look attractive and you can use both color and texture to turn a regular dessert into a patriotic dessert. A good example is the American flag. Perhaps a cake covered in white icing can be decorated with strawberries to make the lines and blueberries to make the hearts.

Ideas for Patriotic Desserts

Perhaps you would prefer making cupcakes to making a large cake and you can decorate those in the same way. Alternatively, you could make a red, white, and blue three-layer jello mold dessert instead. If you can get hold of an Uncle Sam jello mold, you can make a blue and red top hat and decorate it with whipped cream. This one is for the more creative cooks!

Patriotic desserts can be as easy or as fiddly as you want them to be. Making a three-layer jello mold dessert is pretty easy, even for beginners, but making an accurate looking United States flag out of cupcakes, fruit and icing is slightly trickier! In addition, not only that but it will not be around for long either. The better your dessert looks, the faster it is going to be eaten!

You can make individual patriotic desserts if you like, perhaps crispy marshmallow treats with rice cereal, decorated with decorating gels in patriotic colors and sprinkles. You might want to try making red, white, and blue cheesecake bars or chocolates decorated with these colors. Alternatively, a huge flag cake looks pretty impressive too.

If you are having a 4th of July party, you can make a range of buffet foods like ham and cheese croissants, deviled eggs, corn on the cob, chicken wings and potato salad and have a red, white and blue jello flag wobbling on the buffet table as an impressive and eye catching centerpiece.

The Simplest Patriotic Desserts

If you are new to the world of dessert making, focusing on easy patriotic desserts might be a wise move! You might want to try with a three-layer jello cake, in which case you will need to make three different colored layers, one at a time. Simple desserts and no bake desserts can be just as delicious as more complicated ones.

You can either make simple jello layers or you might like to add cream cheese or whipped cream to the white layer or use strawberries or raspberries in the red layer. You can be creative with desserts like these.

You might have to make diabetic desserts for yourself, someone in your family or a guest and you can use sugar free jello because the end results will taste the same.

These are just some of the jello ideas you might like to try. Jello is well loved all over the world because of its great flavor and versatility. Whether you want to make a patriotic dessert, a cake dessert, or something else, plenty is possible with jello.
