Water Conservation And Rain Harvesting

Water Conservation And Rain Harvesting

By Richard H.

Water conservation is an important eco-friendly activity that is the need of the hour. Clean water is becoming very scarce during the summers and non vital tasks like watering the garden and washing the car are getting completely neglected. In many cases, there isn't even enough water for vital tasks like drinking, bathing, washing clothes and dishes, etc. As natural resources of clean water dry up quicker and quicker every year, people as well as animal and plants in that region suffer a lot from water shortage. Many towns, suburbs and cities suffer from drought like conditions halfway through the summer months, with no relief in sight. That is why it is important for us to conserve water at an individual as well as at a public level.

There are many ways in which an individual can conserve water in the house and in the office. Tips to conserve water can be easily found on many websites across the internet. Measures like turning off the tap while shaving and brushing teeth and adding a bottle filled with pebbles to the cistern to avoid using too much water every time we flush may seem like very small measures against the acute water shortage we face, but in a case like this, every bit helps. You will be surprised to find how many hundreds of gallons of water you can conserve individually, if you make the effort.

On the other hand, you can also consider rain water harvesting as a measure to ensure that you have water for your non vital needs during the summer months. But, you will not be the only person to benefit from harvesting rain water. Since you will have your own water during summer, you will end up not taxing the municipal resources of your city, which are already likely to be stretched to the limit. The water you don't use will be gladly used by others in the city. Of course, you get one more benefit. Apart from having clean, soft water to water your garden, you will also be saving big money on your water bills.
