In our current economic climate, one major issue is the desperate need for more qualified medical professionals. According to the United States Department of Labor, health care will generate more wage and salary jobs between 2006 and 2016 than any other industry. With that in mind, the state of Georgia boasts several of the nation's top medical schools, including Emory University School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the Medical College of Georgia.
Emory University School of Medicine
Emory University is ranked among the nation's finest institutions for biomedical education. The School of Medicine's main campus is located in the Druid Hills section of Atlanta. It has a three- part mission: teaching, scholarship, and service. Nearly 7000 physicians and other health care professionals go to Emory each year to participate in one of the nation's most successful continuing medical education programs.
A student at Emory has the opportunity to learn a wide variety of skills that are on demand in the current job market. Emory offers a hundreds of degrees to help students become qualified for their dream career: pediatrician, physical therapist, nursing, medical clerical work like medical billing or health information administration, and physician's assistant are just a few examples of the many options available. The nationally ranked and prestigious Emory University provides a top education for aspiring health professionals.
Morehouse School of Medicine
Established in 1975, The Morehouse School of Medicine is dedicated to improving the well-being and health of communities and individuals, with an emphasis on people of color and the underserved urban and rural populations of Georgia. Morehouse has several educational programs and academic departments that focus on education, research, and patient care. One such department is the department of Family Medicine which prepares students to provide comprehensive health care to families, with an emphasis on undeserved and minority communities.
Morehouse's admission process for the Doctor of Medicine degree is extremely rigorous. In 2007, of the 3,600 students that applied, fifty-two were admitted. The Morehouse School of Medicine is dedicated to excellence.
The Medical College of Georgia
Founded in 1828, the Medical College of Georgia is the thirteenth oldest continuously operating medical school in the United States.
